IT’S “THANK YOU FROM ME”: JOHN MARR
On Sunday 8th July Gabriele and I joined in the Parish Eucharist at St James, and afterwards shared in the 25th Anniversary High Wych Festival, where we were able to meet many people whom we had known over the years, before continuing on our way by car for a family visit to Germany.  We are now back home in Bury St Edmunds.

That Sunday with you will long remain memorable. First, there was the presence of old friends, including Douglas and Margaret Clarke. Following Douglas’ retirement as Rector of High Wych and Gilston with Eastwick over 7 years ago, I that day once more has the pleasure and privilege of assisting Douglas as he celebrated the Parish Eucharist for us. At that service, I was also please to have the opportunity to thank so many people from both parishes who had, b their encouragement and support, enabled me to share in the life and ministry at High Wych, Allen’s Green, Gilston and Eastwick for may years, the last 20 as a Lay Reader.

At the conclusion of the service, the very generous cheque presented to me by High Wych Churchwarden Stuart Mortimer on behalf of both parishes was quite overwhelming. I can but again express very inadequate thanks to you all; I greatly appreciate your kindness. Gabriele and I will set aside a corner of our garden here in our new home to create a permanent reminder of so many years amongst you.

If you find yourself down our way, and would like to call, our telephone number is 01284 735389. We are very near to the National Trust Property “Ickworth”, but with us, there’s no charge for admission!

Gabriele, who served on the High Wych Wives’ Group for some years, and was also associated, at different time, with church cleaning and Sunday coffee morning duty, joins me in saying “au revoir”, sending our love and best wishes to you all in the two parishes.

With renewed thanks from me, JOHN

I would like to thank most warmly all those of you in Gilston and Eastwick whom I visited in the middle of May, and who very kindly filled their red Christian Aid envelopes. The High Wych regional organiser has told me that we raised £306.50, which is a magnificent sum because I think I only managed to visit about 50 houses altogether this year.
Thank you again for your generosity and for the welcome I received wherever I went.
